Galpin

Hamish Galpin – Director, Head of Smaller Companies

Hamish has been at Hermes since 1995, starting as a Senior Investment Analyst and then becoming head of the UK team in 1997. He assumed responsibility for the Smaller Companies unit when it was established in May 2007. Hamish started his career in banking at the Energy and Natural Resources division of NatWest Bank and later moved to become a corporate credit analyst at Bankers Trust Company covering European corporates. He has a degree in Civil Engineering from Nottingham University.

 


Neil Wilkinson

Robert Anstey – Director, US Small Cap Equities

Robert joined the Hermes US Smaller Companies team in 2001 and became head of the US desk in November 2008. He previously worked at Bear Stearns in US Equity sales for 2 years and prior to that was on the US Equity team at private bank Brown Brothers Harriman, where he started out his investing career on Wall Street in 1994. Before this, he also spent 4 years teaching Classics. Robert has an MA in Classics from Cambridge.

 


Robert Anstey

John Leahy – Director, UK Small Cap Equities

John has been with the UK Smaller Companies team as an Investment Manager since January 2001 and is currently a Director of the UK Smaller Companies team. Prior to this, he worked on Hermes' US team for three years. Before joining Hermes in 1998, he helped found G. Ullmann Fund Management in 1992, a specialist US equity investment manager, where responsibilities included portfolio management, client reporting and marketing. He initially trained as a US economist with PaineWebber in London. He has a B.Sc and M.A. in Economics from Warwick University.

 


John Leahy

Neil Wilkinson – Director, European Small Cap Equities

Neil has been with Hermes since 2004 and is currently head of the European Smaller Companies team. Prior to joining Hermes, he was a fund manager covering Pan-European Smaller Companies (i.e. including UK) at AIG Global Investment Group. He started his career at Cazenove & Co. after completing his degree in Economics at Durham University. He is a CFA charter holder.

 


Michael Fagan

Michael Fagan – Associate Director, European Small Cap Equities

Michael has worked at Hermes since 1995. Initially working on the US team, he became a fund manager on the Emerging Markets team in 1997 before moving to the European Smaller Companies desk in 2004. Prior to working at Hermes he was a fund analyst for Fund Research. He has BA (Econ) from Manchester University and an MSc (Econ) from the London School of Economics. He is CFA charter holder and member of ASIP.

 


David Harrison

David Harrison – Associate Director, European Small Cap Equities

David joined Hermes in November 2006. Previously he worked at Close Brothers for four years, where he worked in the asset management division, running a Pan-European equity portfolio. Initially David worked at Goldman Sachs International in investment research. He has a degree in Economics and Politics from Southampton University and is a CFA charter holder.

 


Richard Lake

Richard Lake – Director, European Small Cap Equities

Richard has been at Hermes since 1997, starting as an investment analyst on the European Large Cap team. He started his career at Axa Equity & Law Investment Managers, again covering European ex-UK equities. He has a degree in Economics from Leicester University.

 


Joanne Rands

Joanne Rands – Associate Director, UK Small Cap Equities

Joanne joined the team in March 2007. She started her career in Private Clients at Brewin Dolphin in Leeds before moving to HSBC, where she worked for 7 years covering UK Mid and Large Cap stocks. She has a degree in Geography from Nottingham University.

 


Mark Sherlock

Mark Sherlock - Associate Director, US Small Cap Equities

Mark joined to the US desk in January 2009 and currently co-manages the US SMID portfolio, having previously worked on Hermes' UK Focus Fund for four years. Prior to joining Hermes, he was an investment analyst at the Rio Tinto Pension Fund. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers and is a CFA Charterholder. Mark has a degree in Politics from Durham University.

 


David Stormont

David Stormont – Associate Director, UK Small Cap Equities

David joined Hermes in March 2007. Previously he worked for Montanaro Investment Managers, an independent fund management company that specialises in investing in smaller companies, where he was Head of Research for five years. After Durham University, he joined Carrington Pembroke (subsequently taken over by ABN Amro) where he worked as an analyst and then as a portfolio manager and went on to do an MBA at London Business School. Following business school, David joined Jardine Fleming Securities (Asia) where he worked as the Regional Consumer Analyst for Asia.
